5/25 Classroom Update

This week, we had lots of fun camping in our classroom! We went on many bear hunts, fished in our water table, and enjoyed camping out in a tent. We learned about different tools people use while camping, important camping safety rules, and fun activities to do while camping. Here are some picture highlights from the week:

Important Dates/Reminders:

No School Monday 5/28: There is no school Monday 5/28 in observance of Memorial Day. See you on Tuesday!

Spring Field Trip: We will be visiting Frederick Meijer Gardens on Thursday, June 7th for a Singing with the Sculptures Tram ride! Students will have the opportunity to participate in rhythms, sounds, rhymes, and raps as they roll along learning about the sculptures through fun and familiar songs! After the tram ride, we will have time to explore the Children's Garden at Meijer Gardens. I posted a sign-up sheet for drivers in the hallway or you can email me with the number of children you can drive if you'd like to join in on the fun! The field trip costs $6 per student (will be charged to their WECC preschool account) and $4 per adult (please give $4 cash or a check made out to WECC prior to the field trip to Ms. Katie).

Field Trip Drivers: Due to state licensing requirements, we are required to have specific paperwork on file for field trip drivers that are driving other children. I sent home a note in your child's folder this week if the office needs updated paperwork from you. Please take note of what is missing and visit the WECC office to update your paperwork prior to the field trip on Thursday June 7th. Thank you!

Water Day: On Monday June 11th, we will have a water day here at Woodcliff! We will spend the afternoon outside on the field playing lots of fun water games! Please send your child to school in their swimsuit with sunscreen already applied. They will also need a towel and shoes that can get wet. Hats and sunglasses are optional! In the event of rain, we will participate in fun activities instead. If your child stays after class for Child Care, please pack a set of dry clothes. 

Preschool Picnic for Families: Please join our class for a year end picnic to reminisce, create summer plans and say goodbye to friends on Wednesday, June 13th from 12:30-1:15. Bring a picnic lunch, and we will provide drinks and cake! 

Last Day of PM Preschool: The last day of PM preschool will be Wednesday, June 13th. This differs from the EGRPS last day of school due to childcare being open for ages Preschool-5 in the afternoon on Thursday, June 14th.

5/17 Classroom Update

This week, we learned all about life on the farm! We learned about jobs farmers do, animals that live on a farm, and crops that grow on the farm. During center time, we worked on writing numbers, building numbers with play dough, rhyming words, sorting farm vs. zoo animals, and blending together beginning, middle and end sounds to read simple words. We also worked together to write a class book that we read aloud today! Our caterpillars finally emerged from their chrysalides so we were able to observe our Painted Lady butterflies all week. We were very sad to see them go today!

Important Dates/Reminders:

Hearing and Vision Screening Results: Hearing and vision screening results came home in your child's folder today. It is a blue paper from the Kent County Health Department. Please put this in a safe place as you will need it for Kindergarten registration. If you need another copy for any reason, Ms. Jackie has extra copies in the office!

5/11 Classroom Update

Happy early Mother's Day! This week, we spent the week learning about family and reflecting on why our moms are so special! This week, we worked on a variety of skills from rhyming, to identifying a missing number, to distinguishing between letters, numbers and words. We also continued to observe our caterpillars who are now busy changing inside of their chrysalis! Next week, we will learn all about life on farms!

5/4 Classroom Update

This week, we had so much fun learning about insects, particularly caterpillars and butterflies. We learned songs about the parts of the insects and the life cycle of a butterfly and learned how to identify insects. We also met our new classroom pets: 5 caterpillars! We will continue to watch them grow and change into painted lady butterflies over the next couple of weeks! Here are some picture highlights from our week in preschool:

Important Dates/Reminders:

Book Orders: Scholastic Book orders came home in your child's folder yesterday. If you are interested in ordering, please submit your order by Thursday May 10th. You can order books online by completing the steps below. You may also turn in your paper order and payment to me and I will input your order for you.

1. Go to the Scholastic Reading Club Website here.
2. Click Connect to your Teacher and enter our class activation code: PJFBX.
3. Then click to order from this month's flyer. Our default flyer is the "Early Childhood" flyer; however, you may order from any of the flyers. You can view more details about each book and add them to your cart by clicking on them in the flyer. 
4. After selecting your items, click on the cart to create an account or sign-in to your existing account in order to check-out.  
5. May orders need to be placed by Thursday May 10th.

EGRPS Kindergarten Information Meeting: There will be two kindergarten information meetings held at Breton Downs on Wednesday May 9th at 9 am and 7 pm.
