9/11 Classroom Update

Tuesday/Thursday 3's:

This week, we read the story Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes and practiced retelling the story with pictures! On Tuesday, we decorated and laced our own "shoes," played a Pete the Cat matching game to practice same and different, and practiced taking our own shoes off and on independently. On Thursday, we did a color sort outside, retold the story in pictures, and painted with different items from the story (strawberries, blueberries, and coffee grounds "mud"). We also had our first visit from Ms. Janet on Thursday! We had the best time singing, dancing and playing instruments along with her. We can't wait for her to come back in two weeks!

We also made a class book titled "Rocking in My School Shoes." Each friend will have a turn to take it home and read it with their family members at home. When it is your child's turn, please read it with your child and return it the next class day for another friend to enjoy. We will sanitize it between home visits!

Next week, we will learn about Fall! Here are some pictures from our week in 3's:

PM 5's:

This week in 5's, we read the story Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and focused on the letters in our name! On Tuesday, we made a coconut tree with all the letters in our name and played a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom letter game! We also watched Chicka Chicka Boom Boom come to life and listened to the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom song. On Wednesday, we read Chrysanthemum and talked about how special our names are! We made name bracelets, built our names out of play dough, and matched letter stickers to letters on the coconut tree! On Thursday, we sorted letters in our first and last names. Many friends are working on remembering their last names - this is a great skill to practice at home! We also painted magic pictures where a magic word appeared! :)

This week, we also had our first visit from our music teacher Ms. Janet! We had a blast learning about beats and singing along with Ms. Janet. We will see her again in two weeks!

Next week, we will focus on how we can be "bucket fillers" and good friends. Here are some picture highlights from this week:

9/4 Classroom Update

We had another great week in preschool! This blog contains updates and pictures for both my T/Th 3's class and PM 5's class. I will put all class specific updates/recaps for the 3's class in blue, and all specific updates/recaps for the 5's class in red. Any information in black pertains to both classes!

In 3's this week, we continued learning about healthy habits at both school and home! We learned about the importance of washing our hands, how to sneeze and cough without spreading germs, and what to do if we're not feeling well. We did an experiment to see how soap repels germs, sorted "germs" by color, built shapes with wiki sticks, and completed pre-writing mazes. We also sequenced proper hand washing steps and learned a song that we can sing while washing our hands. Here are the words to the song:

Tune: Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Wash, wash, wash your hands,

Soap will make them clean,

Scrub them 'til the germs come off,

Now they're nice and clean!

In 5's this week we focused on learning more about ourselves and each other! We discussed how differences make us special, having confidence in ourselves, and how different people have different preferences. We also learned how to say "Me gusta" (I like...) and "No me gusta" (I don't like...) in Spanish! During circle time, we sang the Mat Man song and built Mat Man. We practiced drawing people with all the parts of Mat Man, measured different parts of our body, examined our fingerprints with magnifying glasses, and turned ourselves into paper dolls! Here are some picture highlights of our week in 5's:

Next week, we will read Pete The Cat I Love My White Shoes and focus on different colors in 3's. In 5's, we will read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and focus on the alphabet and our names!

8/28 Classroom Update

We had such a great first week of school! It fills my heart to see our classroom full of smiling faces again, and I am so excited for all the fun this year will bring! Our classroom blog serves many purposes throughout the school year. I usually update the blog every Friday and send out an email link to parents each time it is updated. I use the blog as a tool to share what we are working on in class, as well as to share pictures of us in action in class! It's so fun to be able to see all our preschoolers hard at work and play! At the end of each blog post, I will also post important upcoming dates and reminders. This week, I sent home a permission slip to post your child's picture participating in classroom activities on our classroom blog. I will never post names or any other personal information. Please return this form and the Parent Questionnaire to me at your earliest convenience.

This week, we spent the majority of our time together getting to know each other and learning about our classroom. We explored many of the new toys in our room, as well as learned how to use many of our classroom supplies! We will also spend a lot of time during the first few weeks reviewing healthy habits at school and at home! Here is a peek inside our classroom:

I appreciate everyone being so diligent about filling out the WECC Symptom Checker and being patient as we figure out new routines this year.  I have printed a QR code for the WECC Symptom Checker and placed it in our classroom window just in case you ever forget and need to access it from your phone last minute. If you need help using the QR code to access the QR code, just let me know and I can show you how it works!
