Important Dates/Reminders:
Hearing/Vision Screenings: The Kent County Health Department was at WECC this past week to conduct vision and hearing screenings. I will send home the results in your child's folder once I receive them. You will want to keep the results in a safe place to submit as part of your child's kindergarten enrollment paperwork.
Memorial Day: WECC is closed on Monday, May 30th for Memorial Day. There are no preschool classes or childcare that day.
Last Day of School: The last day of school for afternoon preschool classes is Thursday, June 2, and the last day of school for morning preschool classes is Friday, June 3.
This week, we learned about insects and focused on the life cycle of a butterfly! We began observing baby caterpillars and will continue to record our observations in our butterfly life cycle journals. We learned what makes an insect and sorted insects by attributes. We read the classic story The Very Hungry Caterpillar and practiced retelling the story with a beginning, middle, and end. We also thought about what foods we would have the hungry caterpillar eat if we wrote the book! We learned about symmetry and that butterflies are symmetrical. We matched butterfly puzzles and tried to draw our own symmetrical butterflies during center time. We also discussed Mother's Day and painted a special surprise for our moms to recognize them for all they do for us! On Thursday, we celebrated our power to choose and many of our other super powers! We had fun thinking about what makes us super, creating superhero masks, and sorting positive and negative choices. We've been working on noticing the positive choices of others and celebrating each other's power to choose wisely. For word work, we focused on the -ig word family, and we will learn about the -ip word family next week! Here are some picture highlights from our week in 5's:
