10/7 Classroom Update

  Important Dates/Reminders:

Classroom Directory Survey: I am creating a classroom directory for families to coordinate playdates, carpooling, etc. Please fill out this quick form at your earliest convenience so that I can create the directory to share with our class!

Extra Clothes: With the change in the weather, now is a great time to switch your child's extra clothes in their backpack to warmer items.

Picture Day: Picture Day for both classes is this coming Monday, October 10th. If your child is absent on the 10th, we will try to make it up on Tuesday the 11th. Picture retakes will be November 2nd.

No School: There are no preschool classes on Friday, October 28th. WECC childcare will be open that day for children enrolled in the childcare program that filled out the specific form for that day.

Halloween Parade: We will be holding an outdoor Halloween Parade on Monday, October 31st (weather permitting) on the field next to the WECC parking lot. We ask that families line up around the perimeter during the parade. The morning parade will be held at 11:00 am with dismissal from the classroom exterior doors at the end of the parade. The afternoon parade will be held at 2:45 pm with dismissal from the classroom exterior doors at the end of the parade. You may send your child to school dressed in their costume for the day or send their costume in if you prefer to have them change ahead of the parade. Your child also does not have to dress up if they prefer. This year, we will also be engaging in Halloween learning fun all week in class to celebrate in lieu of a party.

Costumes: Please avoid scary masks and scary make-up. And as always, no weapons of any kind are allowed at school, even when they are part of a costume.

Thanksgiving Break: WECC will be closed Wednesday, November 23rd through Friday, November 25th for Thanksgiving. Classes will resume on Monday, November 28th.

MWF 3's Class:

This week, we talked about feelings! We discussed what feelings look and feel like, acted them out, and brainstormed things that make us feel happy, sad, mad, etc. We read the fun story Glad Monster, Sad Monster which features masks to try on different emotions. We made our own monster feelings masks to go along with the book! We also looked at pictures of real people and looked their facial and body clues to determine how they are feeling. We discussed and practiced strategies for calming our bodies when we feel upset or too excited (ex. using our words, taking deep breaths, counting to 10, giving our body a break, etc.). We also learned about the letter C, practiced writing the letter c with etch-a-sketches, and traced sandpaper letters. Ms. Lori visited our class for music on Friday, and we had lots of fun dancing with shakers and following patterns! Next week, we will focus on friendship/kindness and learn about the letter D. PM 5's Class:

This week, we learned all about apples! We learned about how apples grow, the life cycle of an apple tree, and how an apple tree changes throughout the seasons. We used our five senses to explore apples, and we tasted red, green, and yellow apples to see which we liked best. We experimented to see if an apple would sink or float, and we used a balance to test which items were heavier or lighter than an apple. We continued to work on recognizing the sight words "I see" and introduced some color words. We also worked on sorting words by beginning sound and played an apple matching game. We worked on strengthening our fine motor skills by lacing apples, peeling apples to make applesauce and pinching tissue paper to show how apple trees look during each season. On Thursday, we enjoyed the applesauce we made together as part of our snack! Ms. Lori visited for music this week, and we had the best time dancing and singing along to Scott Joplin, Motown music, and apple songs. Next week, we will learn about pumpkins and the letter E. Have a great weekend! GO EAST!
