Important Dates/Reminders
Valentines: Sending in individual valentines for the class is optional. Although we will not have an official time to pass out valentines, students may bring them in to pass out during free choice time if they'd like. We have 20 students in our morning class and 14 students in our afternoon class.
This week, we continued to learn about Community Helpers with a focus on Safety Helpers. We talked about many of the important jobs that lifeguards, fire fighters, police officers, and the military perform in our communities to help keep us safe. One big highlight of our week was playing in our new fire station dramatic play center! We also worked on positional words, created shape firetrucks, and acted out a fireman rhyme while strengthening our fine motor muscles. On Wednesday, we also learned about fire safety and practiced what to do if there was a fire: stop, drop and roll. Our focus letter this week was the letter P, and we turned our handprints into a peacock with beautiful tail feathers! On Friday, Ms. Lori came and led us in some fun movement and dance songs. Here are some picture highlights of our weeks in 3's:
PM 5's Class:
This week, we began our exploration of different modes of transportation. We learned about different types of transportation on land, sea and in the air. We also learned about the forces of push and pull, and how we use them in our everyday lives. A push is a force that moves something away from our bodies, while a pull moves something towards our body. We explored what makes something easier/harder to push and pull and experimented with different classroom items. During center time, we built beginning sound trains and built a train that covered our entire carpet! After reading If Built a Car, we designed our own dream cars and practiced identifying our birthdays when creating "driver's licenses." We had so many creative ideas, and our cars could do some pretty amazing things! We solved a traffic jam puzzle by putting numbers 1-30 in order and also practiced writing numbers 1-20. We learned about how airplanes work and then built and tested our own paper airplanes! This week, we learned about the letter M, learned the sign for the letter M, and identified lots of words that begin with M. We also had lots of fun playing in the dentist dramatic play and new fire station dramatic play center during free choice time! Next week, we will engage in lots of fun valentine's day themed learning, as well as learn about the letter N. Here are some picture highlights in 5's:
