2/26 Classroom Update
I hope everyone enjoyed their surprise snow day! This week, we learned all about the letter Z and learned about animals at the zoo. We sorted zoo animals vs. non zoo animals, built our own zoos, made zoo animals out of playdough and pattern blocks, measured zoo animals with cubes, and matched zoo animals to their beginning sounds. Students shared about their experiences at the zoo, as well as their favorite zoo animals. We also read some great books about the zoo:
Next week, we will be learning about the letter C and discussing the colors of the rainbow. We will learn all about rainbows, mix colors, complete color puzzles, and much more!
1KB4K Reading Program: The Kent District Library has a great reading readiness program called "1,000 Book Before Kindergarten." Every child in your family can participate, from infant up to Kindergarten. This program is a great way for your child to work hard to accomplish a big goal, as well as gain early literacy skills! Here is basic information about how the program works:
- When you enroll your child in 1KB4K at any KDL branch, you will receive a folder that contains your first Zoo Animal Chart. For every book you read, cross off one animal on your chart. We read at least two books every day during class, so students can automatically cross off two books for each day they are at school!
- When you have read 100 books to your child, bring the completed Zoo Animal Chart to your Kent District library branch. Your child will get his or her name on their Wall of Fame (great photo op!), a sticker and a new Zoo Animal Chart for the next 100 books.
- After every 100 books, make sure to pick up your sticker and the next Animal Chart.
- When your child reaches 1,000 books, he or she will receive their very own book bag and a Certificate of Achievement.
