5/7 Classroom Update

 Important Dates/Reminders:

New Mask Policy: Our friends have been doing a great job wearing and keeping track of their masks in class! Please label your child's mask with their name/initials and consider attaching their mask to a lanyard to help avoid loss and mix-ups. Please consider sending more than one mask as they can sometimes get wet, dirty, etc. We understand this may be a big adjustment for many of our friends, and we will do our best to support them with this big change and provide mask breaks if needed.

Camp East Registration: If you are interested in having your child attend Camp East this summer, registration is now open. Please see go here for more information on Camp East, the fun experiences/field trips offered, and the link to register.

Memorial Day: WECC will be closed Monday, May 31st in observance of Memorial Day.

Last Day of School: The last day of school for both T/Th 3's and PM 5's will be Thursday, June 3rd.

T/Th 3's Class:

This week, we continued our exploration of insects and butterflies! We continued to watch our "caterpillars" grow and were excited to find that now they are inside chrysalides! We learned the parts of an insect and butterfly, and can sing a fun song to help us remember called "Head, Thorax, Abdomen (and Sometimes Wings!)." We also revisited how to build and draw Mat Man! Mat Man is a person/song that helps teach body awareness when drawing a person and the important parts to include. After singing the song, we practiced drawing a person by drawing pictures of our moms! We also read a story called What Mommies Do Best and discussed what our own mommies do best. We prepared a special art project for our moms to thank them for all they do for us! Here are some picture highlights of our week in 3's:

 PM 5's Class:

This week, we learned about insects and focused on the life cycle of a butterfly! We began observing baby caterpillars and will continue to record our observations in our butterfly life cycle journals. We learned what makes an insect and sorted insects by attributes.  We read the classic story The Very Hungry Caterpillar and practiced retelling a story. We also thought about what foods we might have a caterpillar eat if we wrote the book! We also learned about symmetry and that butterflies are symmetrical. We matched butterfly puzzles and tried to make our own symmetrical butterflies during center time. We also read a story called "What Not to Give Your Mom for Mother's Day" and thought about how we can celebrate our moms this weekend! We may have painted a special surprise for our moms to recognize them for all they do for us :)! We focused on the -ig word family this week, and next week will learn about the -ip word family! Here are some picture highlights from our week in 5's:

Happy Mother's Day! Have a great weekend!
