Community Earth Day Celebration:
Hearing/Vision Screenings: The Kent County Health Department will be at WECC the first week in May to conduct vision and hearing screenings. I will send home the results in your child's folder following the screenings. You will want to keep the results in a safe place to submit as part of your child's kindergarten enrollment paperwork.
Camp East Registration: Camp East Registration is now open! Camp East runs from June 13th until August 12th from 7:00 am - 5:30 pm. Any Camp East registration questions should be directed to Courtney Richards by calling the WECC office at 235-7595 or by emailing crichards@egrps.org. Below are the weekly themes and experiences planned:
Memorial Day: WECC is closed on Monday, May 30th for Memorial Day. There are no preschool classes or childcare that day.
Last Day of School: The last day of school for afternoon preschool classes is Thursday, June 2, and the last day of school for morning preschool classes is Friday, June 3.
This week, we learned about planet earth and how we can take care of our home! We learned that Earth is the "ocean planet," and explored our world with a globe. We also learned about the importance of keeping our oceans clean and many of the different types of wildlife that live there. Ms. Henriette brought in a bull shark jaw to share with us, and we loved learning about bull sharks and getting to touch the shark jaw/teeth! We learned about the 3 R's (reduce, reuse, and recycle) and how we can implement the 3 R's in our daily lives. We took a virtual field trip of a recycling plant and learned about the many things that can be recycled! During center time, we created recycled art, played in an earth sensory bin, practiced scissor skills (and then recycled the paper!), painted the earth with q-tips to work on our fine motor skills, wrote about how we can save the earth, and sorted things we can reduce, reuse and recycle. We also started getting old crayons ready to be made into new recycled crayons! We learned about the -ap word family this week and went on an -ap word family hunt in our classroom. On Thursday, we learned about the history of earth day, met Michael Recycle, and celebrated being Earth Heroes. Here are some pictures from our week in 5's:
