MWF 3's Class:

This week, we learned all about snow and ice! We learned and acted out the lifecycle of a snowflake, and learned about wet vs. dry snow and ice. We discussed all the fun things we like to do in the snow, as well as all of the clothes we need to wear warm and what body part they protect. We read The Snowy Day and created our own snowy day scenes. We really enjoyed playing in our new doctor's office dramatic play center and using magnifying glasses to explore snowflakes. We sorted snowflakes by matching snowflakes that were the same. We also explored the concept of melting and discussed things that can/cannot melt. We also tried using different methods to save frozen animals in ice including using hot water, wood mallets and picks. We learned about the letter L, turned our handprints into lions for our letter books, and learned the sign for the letter L. We have been working on writing the letters in our name and practice writing them by signing in each day. Next week we will learn about the letter M, bears and hibernation. PM 5's Class:

This week in 5's, we focused on ways to keep our bodies healthy! We emphasized the importance of washing our hands, covering our mouths/noses when we cough and sneeze, and the importance of healthy eating and rest. We did a demonstration with glitter to show how germs are spread from person to person, and we also met "Sick Simon" (a spray bottle) who is learning how to use his "germ jail" when he coughs and sneezes. We started an experiment where we rubbed potatoes on different surfaces in the classroom that we thought might have germs to see what happens! We will continue to monitor our potatoes over the next few weeks. We also saw the power of soap to repel germs in another demonstration using pepper as germs. During center time, we looked at germs, teeth, skin and blood cells and other objects with a microscope. Our new doctor's office dramatic play was a huge hit, as well as building germs with modeling clay and other materials. We learned about the letters B and D, and continue to introduce new sight words each week. Next week, we will learn about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and focus on celebrating differences! Have a great weekend!
