MWF 3's Class:
This week, we learned about apples and the letter A! We met our Zoo Phonics friend Ally Alligator, practiced making the short and long A sounds, built the letter A and identified words that start with A. During circle time, we sang a few apple songs and read about how apples grow. In centers, we painted real apples like Arnold did in The Seasons of Arnold's Apple Tree, played in our classroom apple orchard, counted apples, made playdough apples, and taste tested different types and colors of apples. The red and yellow were the most popular, while many friends thought the green were too sour! While playing apple hopscotch, we practiced motor planning and jumping in and out. We also had lots of fun stamp painting with apples too! Ms. Lori came back for music on Friday, and we enjoyed dancing, singing, and lots of dancing/movement activities with her. Next week, we will read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and focus on the letters in our names. Here are some picture highlights from our week in 3's:
PM 5's Class:
This week, we learned about different feelings and how to identify how other and ourselves are feeling. We focused on what causes certain emotions and how those emotions look and feel. We sorted feelings using facial and body language clues and acted out different feelings in "Feelings Charades." In our discussions about feelings, we also talked about different problems that can arise with friends and strategies to solve problems in a kind manner to make everyone feel better and ready to play. We read the book A Bug and Wish and practiced using the prompts "It bugs me when...." and "I wish...." to solve problems between fictional friends. We also worked on reading a simple book that follows a pattern, along with reading the pictures to identify the feelings and sentence endings. Our math focus skill this week was learning about the attributes of a square. After reading The Perfect Square, we created our own square art! Ms. Lori came on Thursday afternoon, and we enjoyed playing musical follow the leader around our classroom. Next week, we will begin talking about fall weather, leaves, and animals in the fall. Here are some picture highlights from our week in 5's:
