4/26 Classroom Update

This week, we learned about planet earth and the importance of taking care of our planet! We learned about ways that we can protect the earth, as well as all about recycling. We learned about different types of items that can be recycled and how different objects can be reused to cut down on garbage waste. We also learned about and practiced reading words in the -an word family. Here are a few picture highlights from the week:

We recycled old, broken crayons in our classroom by making them into new, fun-shaped crayons!

We practiced our fine motor skills by painting the world with Q-tips!

 We played with animals from all over the world in the mulch table!

We learned about ways to take care of the earth because the earth is in our hands. We used dotters to paint planet earth!

This week, we practiced writing the numbers 3 and 4.

Important Dates/Reminders:

Scholastic Book Orders: Last week, I sent home Scholastic book orders in your child's folder. April book orders are due by this coming Tuesday, April 30th. You can order books online by completing the steps below. You may also turn in your paper order and payment to me and I will input and send in your order for you.
  1. Go to the Scholastic Reading Club Website here.
  2. Click Connect to your Teacher and enter our class activation code: PJFBX.
  3. Then click to order from this month's flyer. Our default flyer is the "Early Childhood" flyer; however, you may order from any of the flyers. You can view more details about each book and add them to your cart by clicking on them in the flyer. 
  4. After selecting your items, click on the cart to create an account or sign-in to your existing account in order to check-out.  
  5. April orders need to be placed by Tuesday, April 30th.
KDL Classroom Visits: KDL will come visit our classroom next Tuesday to talk about "everything library." KDL will also visit on 5/14 with some fun STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities.

Spring Sing: Join us for a Spring Sing concert on Wednesday, May 8th at 2:30 pm  in the WECC Board Room. Afterwards, we will celebrate family in our classroom with a special snack and refreshments!

Hearing and Vision Screenings: The Kent Count Health Department will be at WECC to conduct hearing and vision screenings on May 14th and 15th.

Memorial Day: There is no school on Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day.

Swiss Lane Farms Visit: On Wednesday, May 29th, Swiss LaneFarms will be visiting WECC to teach us all about the daily workings of a dairy farm, cows, and dairy nutrition. They will also be bringing a calf with them for us to meet!

End of the Year Family Celebration: Please join our class for a year end celebration on Tuesday, June 4th from 2-3 pm to reminisce, create summer plans and say goodbye to friends. We will provide cake and drinks!

Last Day of School: The last day of school for PM preschool students is Wednesday, June 5th. We will be having a fun water day to celebrate our last day! More details to come.

4/19 Classroom Update

This week, we learned about plants and living things. We learned that living things need air, water, and food to survive. They also grow, reproduce, and sometimes move. We also learned about the -ad word family! Here are some picture highlights from the week: 

 We sorted objects based on whether they were "living" or "nonliving."

We practiced cutting different types of lines: straight, curvy, and zig zag!

We played in our classroom garden sensory table!

We planted radish seeds and will continue to take care of them and watch them grow in our classroom!

We finished our last letter book page for our letter books this week - Q is for Queen!

Our dramatic play center housed many new "spring cleaning" toys. Friends has a blast cleaning up our classroom!

We took a walk to watch construction trucks tearing down a house a few houses down from school!

We learned about the parts and functions of each part of a plant/flower!

We practiced reading words from the -at and -ad word families and sorted them by word family.

We practiced number recognition by playing "Where is the carrot?"

4/12 Classroom Update

This week, we learned about the -at word family and engaged in lots of fun spring activities! We mimicked how a seed grows into a flower with a parachute, painted beautiful spring flowers, and learned about why it rains. We also worked on sounding out, reading, and writing words in the -at word family (like cat, hat, mat, sat, chat, etc.). Here are some picture highlights from the week:

We practiced identifying numbers with a ladybug spin and stamp game!

We used bottles to paint beautiful spring flowers!

We built words from the -at word family with playdough!

We practiced reading, stamping, and writing words from the -at family!

We decorated spring playdough mats!

We painted spring tulips with forks!

We matched upper and lowercase letters with butterflies!

Next week, we will start our unit on living and non-living things by learning about plants and what they need. We will also be planting radishes to observe and bring home later this year!
