MWF 3's Class:

This week we began our exploration of caterpillars and butterflies! We met our class caterpillars, and we will continue to observe as they grow and change into butterflies. We read the classic story The Very Hungry Caterpillar and practiced retelling the story. We really enjoyed acting out the story with felt pieces! We also sequenced the life cycle of a butterfly, learned about each of the different stages, and acted out the life cycle with a butterfly dance. During center time, we drew caterpillar observations in our caterpillar journals, recreated the butterfly life cycle with pasta, and crafted name caterpillars. We also enjoyed playing in a garden sensory tub, lacing butterflies, and strengthening our fine motor muscles by hole punching foods from The Very Hungry CaterpillarThis week, we also learned about the letter Z and painted our hands to look like zebras for our letter books! Next week we will continue to learn more about butterflies and insects! PM 5's Class:

This week, we learned about living things and turned into superheroes! We learned that living things need food, air, and water. They also grow, can move, and reproduce. We practiced sorting living versus nonliving things both at circle time and in small groups. We began our exploration of plants by learning about what plants need to grow, the life cycle of a plant,  the different parts of a plant, and what role each part plays. We learned the steps to planting seeds, drew funny faces on cups and planted grass seed to make our own silly grass heads. We will continue to watch our seeds grow over the next couple of weeks! On Thursday, we learned why bees are so important to plants and had fun with some silly bee songs and rhymes! We also learned about the -it word family and practiced reading, stamping, and writing words in the -it word family. We have been reading the book series What Should Danny Do? and learning about how we all have the superhero power to choose. We are learning how our choices give us responsibility for our actions and can have positive or negative consequences. We have been wearing superhero capes in the classroom to remind us that we have the power to make good choices, and we have been focusing on catching others making positive choices! Next week, we will continue to wear our capes and discuss the power of our choices. On Thursday 5/5, we will have a superhero celebration to celebrate our awesomeness! I invite friends to dress like superheroes next Thursday to help celebrate! We will also continue our exploration of living things and life cycles by learning about caterpillars and butterflies, and we will also learn about the -ig word family!
