10/30 Classroom Update

Important Dates/Reminders:

Warm Clothing: As it gets colder, please send your child with warm clothing for outside time each day. Many items look similar, so please label your child's coat, boots, hat, and gloves/mittens. We go outside daily as long as it is not raining and the wind chill is above zero. If there is snow in the forecast or on the ground, please also send your child with snow pants as well.

Class Directory Form: I am still waiting on a few class directory permission forms so that I can finalize a class directory for each class. The directory will allow parents to contact each other to plan playdates, coordinate carpools, etc. I will send home another permission slip form this week with families that I still need them from. Please return the permission form to school at your earliest convenience so that I can finalize the directories and get them out to everyone. Thank you!

Picture Retakes: Picture retakes and make-ups will be held this coming Wednesday, November 4th. Please let me know if you would like to have your child's picture retaken. If your child does not attend WECC on Wednesdays and you would like a retake, you can bring them to the WECC office between 9:00-9:30 am on November 4th to have their picture retaken.

Thanksgiving Break: WECC will be closed Wednesday, November 25th through Friday, November 27th for Thanksgiving Break.

Winter Break: There will be no preschool classes starting Monday, December 21 through Friday, January 1. School will resume on Monday, January 4th.

District Calendar: We follow the EGRPS district calendar. The 2020-21 district calendar was just released and can be found here

This week, we engaged in lots of Halloween fun! We also learned about the letter F. During circle time, we acted out the story The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything, sang the Five Little Pumpkins song, worked together to build Mat Man, and learned about spiders! We sing the Mat Man song to teach body awareness and to learn how to draw a person. You can find the Mat Man song here. During center time, we made Halloween witches brew counting stew, strengthened our fine motor skills with a spider sensory web, made our hands into a fish for our letter books, built shape jack-o-lanterns, reviewed emotions with pumpkin feelings bingo and constructed shape scarecrows! Next week, we are going to focus on how we use our whole bodies to listen. Here are some picture highlights from our week in 3's:

PM 5's Class:

This week in 5's, we explored our five senses. We discussed the many ways we use our five senses to learn about our world, be aware, and to be safe. During center time, we explored with microscopes, kaleidoscopes, prisms, and magnifying glasses to see how we use our eyes to see shapes, sizes, colors, brightness, etc. We also used our sense of smell to play a smelling guessing game, and our sense of hearing as well as a sound matching game. We taste tested different types of apples to determine our favorite, and played a guess the classroom item game using only our sense of touch.
