10/27 Classroom Update

Important Dates/Reminders:

No School 10/28: There are no preschool classes on Friday, October 28th.

Scholastic Book Orders: This week, I sent home Scholastic book order fliers in your child's folder. You can order books by completing the order forms on the flier and returning to me or online by completing the steps below. There is a larger selection of books online to choose from than in the flier. Due to supply chain issues, shipping is taking much longer than usual so this will be the last book order before the holidays. If your order is a gift, please let me know so I can get it to you discreetly.
  1. Go to the Scholastic Reading Club Website here.
  2. Click Connect to your Teacher and enter our class activation code: PJFBX.
  3. Then click to order from this month's flier. Our default flier is the "Early Childhood" flier; however, you may order from any of the fliers. You can view more details about each book and add them to your cart by clicking on them in the flier.
  4. After selecting your items, click on the cart to create an account or sign-in to your existing account in order to check-out. September/October orders need to be placed by Friday, November 11th.

Classroom Directory Survey: I am creating a classroom directory for families to coordinate playdates, carpooling, etc. If you have not already, please fill out this quick form at your earliest convenience so that I can create the directory to share with our class!

Picture Retakes/Make-ups: Make-up/retake pictures will be taken next Wednesday, November 2nd. Please let me know if you would like to have your child's picture retaken.

Halloween Parade: We will be holding an outdoor Halloween Parade on Monday, October 31st (weather permitting) on the field next to the WECC parking lot. We ask that families line up around the perimeter during the parade. The morning parade will be held at 11:00 am with dismissal from the classroom exterior doors at the end of the parade. If your child attends childcare after the morning class, they will parade with our class at 11:00 and then we will take them to childcare afterwards. The afternoon parade will be held at 2:45 pm with dismissal from the classroom exterior doors at the end of the parade. You may send your child to school dressed in their costume for the day or send their costume in if you prefer to have them change ahead of the parade. Your child also does not have to dress up if they prefer. This year, we will also be engaging in Halloween learning fun all week in class to celebrate in lieu of a party.

Costumes: Please avoid scary masks and scary make-up. And as always, no weapons of any kind are allowed at school, even when they are part of a costume.

Thanksgiving Break: WECC will be closed Wednesday, November 23rd through Friday, November 25th for Thanksgiving. Classes will resume on Monday, November 28th.

MWF 3's Class:

This week, we engaged in lots of Halloween fun! We also learned about the letter F. During circle time, we acted out the story The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything, sang the Five Little Pumpkins song, worked together to build Mat Man, and learned about spiders! We sing the Mat Man song to teach body awareness and to learn how to draw a person. You can find the Mat Man song here. During center time, we made Halloween witches brew counting stew, strengthened our fine motor skills with a spider sensory web bin, made built a shape scarecrow, turned our hands into a fish for our letter books, reviewed emotions with pumpkin feelings bingo, and created water color spider web paintings! Next week, we are going to focus on the letter G and how we use our whole bodies to listen. Here are some picture highlights from all our Halloween fun this week in 3's:

PM 5's Class:

This week in 5's, we read several versions of the classic tale The Three Little Pigs. We learned about story elements like characters, setting, problem/solution, and cause/effect. One of the skills we work on is retelling a story with a beginning, middle and end. We made beginning, middle, and end flipbooks to retell the story of The Three Little Pigs. We also identified the beginning sounds of words, played a rhyming memory game, and blended together words to make compound words. On Thursday, we designed our own houses, and experimented to see if the "wind" would blow different classroom items. We had lots of interesting hypotheses and observations about why some things blow in the wind and why other things do not. Our preschool friends really embraced putting on their problem solver/engineer caps when trying to build a "strong" house with sugar cubes, toothpicks, and marshmallows. We also had a surprise visitor on the playground which made for lots of fun! Next week, we will engage in lots of Halloween fun and learn about the letter C. Here are some picture highlights from out week in 5's:

Have a great weekend!
