 Important Dates/Reminders:

Spirit Week 4/19-23: We will be celebrating spring next week at WECC with a fun, color-themed spirit week at WECC! Each day will have a designated color that your child may wear in any way that they'd like (shirts, pants, hats, socks, shoes, jewelry, hair, etc.). Here are the color themes by day:
  • Monday: Red
  • Tuesday: Orange
  • Wednesday: Yellow
  • Thursday: Green
  • Friday: Blue/Purple
Camp East Registration: If you are interested in having your child attend Camp East this summer, registration begins on Monday (April 19). Please see the newsletter sent out by Ms. Jackie earlier this week for more information on Camp East.

Hearing/Vision Screenings: The Kent County Health Department will be at WECC on April 26-29 to conduct vision and hearing screenings. I will send home the results in your child's folder following the screenings. You will want to keep the results to submit for Kindergarten enrollment.

Memorial Day: WECC will be closed Monday, May 31st in observance of Memorial Day.

Last Day of School: The last day of school for both T/Th 3's and PM 5's will be Thursday, June 3rd.

T/Th 3's Class:

This week, we continued our exploration of plants and how they grow! On Tuesday, we learned how to plant seeds and planted some grass seeds! We will continue to care for them and watch them grow in our classroom over the next few weeks. We learned about the life cycle of a plant/flower and the important role that bees have. We had lots of fun singing songs like "I'm Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee" and "Here is the Beehive." During center time, we painted colorful flowers, created name flower gardens, and practiced using our scissors to cut along a straight line. We also learned about the letter X and turned our handprints into x-ray pictures for our letter books! Next week, we will celebrate Earth day, learn about how to take care of our planet, and learn about the letter Y. Here are some picture highlights from our week in 3's:

PM 5's Class:

This week, we learned about spring and signs of spring in Michigan! On Monday, we took a nature walk around school to look for signs of spring and found a nest of baby bunnies outside the district office doors! We discussed the many types of weather we can have during spring, as well as sang a song about spring weather called "Zippy Weather." We learned about different spring events in Michigan like Tulip Time in Holland and the butterflies at Meijer Gardens. During center time, we painted tulips with forks, matched upper and lowercase letters with puzzles and a butterfly game, read about Spring together, went on sight word hunts, played a number identification game, "planted" flowers based on their beginning sound and painted colorful spring colors with recycled bottles. We also learned about the -an word family and built -an word family words with both playdough and stamps. Next week, we will learn about the -ap word family and learn about how to take care of our planet for Earth Day! Have a great weekend!
