10/22 Classroom Update

Important Dates/Reminders:

Halloween Parade: We will be holding an outdoor Halloween Parade on Wednesday, October 27th in the AM and Thursday, October 28th in the PM (weather permitting) on the field next to the WECC parking lot. We ask that families line up around the perimeter during the parade. The morning parade will be held at 11:00 am with dismissal from the classroom exterior doors at the end of the parade. The afternoon parade will be held at 2:45 pm with dismissal from the classroom exterior doors at the end of the parade. You may send your child to school dressed in their costume for the day or send their costume in if you prefer to have them change ahead of the parade. Your child also does not have to dress up if they prefer. This year, we will also be engaging in Halloween learning fun all week in class to celebrate in lieu of a party.

Costumes: Please avoid scary masks and scary make-up. And as always, no weapons of any kind are allowed at school, even when they are part of a costume.

No School 10/29: There are no preschool classes on Friday, October 29th.

Scholastic Book Orders: This week, I sent home Scholastic book order fliers in your child's folder. You can order books by completing the order forms on the flier and returning to me or online by completing the steps below. There is a larger selection of books online to choose from than in the flier. Due to supply chain issues, shipping is taking much longer than usual so this will be the last book order before the holidays. Our last book order still hasn't arrived due to shipping delays.
  1. Go to the Scholastic Reading Club Website here.
  2. Click Connect to your Teacher and enter our class activation code: PJFBX.
  3. Then click to order from this month's flier. Our default flier is the "Early Childhood" flier; however, you may order from any of the fliers. You can view more details about each book and add them to your cart by clicking on them in the flier.
  4. After selecting your items, click on the cart to create an account or sign-in to your existing account in order to check-out. September/October orders need to be placed by Friday, November 12th.
School Pictures: This week, I sent home your child's school picture proof cards to access your child's school pictures online. Please let me know if you would like to have your child's picture retaken on Wednesday, November 3rd.

Thanksgiving Break: There are no preschool classes Wednesday, November 24th through Friday, November 26th for Thanksgiving Break.

MWF 3's Class:

This week, we learned about pumpkins! We explored the inside and outside of a pumpkin using our five senses, measured pumpkins, and learned about how they grow. We continued our discussion about emotions during circle time and center time, as well as sang a pumpkin emotions song. We've also been practicing the classic 5 Little Pumpkins song for Halloween! You can sing along to the 5 Little Pumpkins song here. During center time, we also matched pumpkin shapes, made our letter E letter book page, created a Spookley inspired square pumpkin, played with pumpkin pie playdough, practiced using scissors, mixed colors to paint orange pumpkins and played a pumpkin counting game. Next week, we will engage in lots of Halloween fun and learn about the letter F. Here are some picture highlights from the week:

PM 5's Class:

This week in 5's, we explored our five senses. We discussed the many ways we use our five senses to learn about our world, be aware, and to be safe. During center time, we explored with microscopes, kaleidoscopes, prisms, and magnifying glasses to see how we use our eyes to see shapes, sizes, colors, brightness, etc. We also used our sense of smell to play a smelling guessing game, and our sense of hearing as well as a sound matching game. During snack time, we taste tested different foods to see which tasted salty, sweet, bitter, and sour. We also played a guess the classroom item game using only our sense of touch. Our letter of the week was the letter T, and we created turkeys out of the letter T for our letter books. Next week, we will engage in lots of Halloween fun and learn about the letter H! Here are some picture highlights of our week in 5's:

Have a great weekend!
