MWF 3's Class:

This week, we learned all about snow and ice! We learned and acted out the lifecycle of a snowflake and experimented to see if sugar or salt would melt ice faster. We discussed all the fun things we like to do in the snow, as well as all of the clothes we need to wear warm and what body part they protect. We read The Snowy Day and created our own snowy day scenes. We really enjoyed playing in our new doctor's office dramatic play center and using magnifying glasses to explore snowflakes. We also explored the concept of melting, and discussed things that can/cannot melt. We learned about the letter L, turned our handprints into lions for our letter books, and learned the sign for the letter L. We have been working on writing the letters in our name and will practice by signing in each day. Next week we will learn about the letter M and hibernation. PM 5's Class:

This week in 5's, we focused on ways to keep our bodies healthy! We emphasized the importance of washing our hands, covering our mouths/noses when we cough and sneeze, and the importance of rest. We did a demonstration with glitter to show how germs are spread from person to person, and we also met "Sick Simon" (a spray bottle) who is learning how to cover his mouth when he coughs and sneezes. We started an experiment where we rubbed potatoes on different surfaces in the classroom that we thought might have germs to see what happens! We also saw the power of soap to repel germs in another demonstration using pepper as germs. We created "germ art" by blowing around paint through straws, and looked at germs, blood cells and other objects with a microscope. Our new doctor's office dramatic play was a huge hit, as well as building germs with modeling clay and other materials. We learned about the letters B and D, and continue to learn new sight words each week. Next week, we will learn about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and focus on celebrating differences!
