5/20 Classroom Update

Important Dates/Reminders:

Hearing/Vision Screenings: This week, I sent home the results from your child's hearing and vision by the Kent County Health Department screening in your child's folder. You will want to keep the results in a safe place to submit as part of your child's kindergarten enrollment paperwork.

Memorial Day: WECC is closed on Monday, May 30th for Memorial Day. There are no preschool classes or childcare that day.

Water/Field Day 6/1: Weather permitting, we will have a field day on Wednesday, June 1st for both am and pm preschool students. If the weather is warm enough, we will also have some water activities; otherwise, we will have activities set up in the fields around the school. Please send your child to school on June 1st ready to spend most of the preschool day outside. Please apply sunscreen before coming to school. We will decide if we need swimsuits, towels, etc. at a later date once we know the forecast.

Summer Send-off Celebration: We are hosting a Summer Send-off (formerly the Preschool Picnic) for our preschool students on Thursday, June 2nd for PM 5's students at 2:30 and Friday, June 3rd for 3's students at 10:45. Light refreshments will be provided, and the event will be hosted outdoors (weather permitting).

Last Day of School: The last day of school for afternoon preschool classes is Thursday, June 2, and the last day of school for morning preschool classes is Friday, June 3.

MWF 3's Class:

This week, we had the best time camping in our classroom! We learned about the different types of  gear that people take camping and planned what we would bring on a camping trip. We also learned how to be safe while camping, solved forest animal riddles, and discussed things people like to do while camping. During center time, we painted patterns with marshmallows, put together a campsite, camped in our classroom in a tent, built S'more Man modeled off of Mat Man, and made an early father's day surprise! We enjoyed lots of outside time with the beautiful weather and finished off the week by going on an animal track hunt around the classroom. We also enjoyed tasting s'mores during snack. On Friday, we completed our butterfly journals and let our butterflies go. We were sad to see them go but were so excited when a couple started landing on us! PM 5's Class:

This week, we had so much fun camping in our classroom! We discussed our own camping experiences, learned about the gear campers need, and explored different places people can go camping. We discussed camping safety, particularly the importance of being safe around a campfire. We also learned about the -ot word family and practiced reading and writing -ot and camping words! During center time, we created a campsite scene, went on a camping word hunt around the classroom, painted campfires, and painted a special Father's Day surprise! We also challenged ourselves with finding missing numbers, changing letters in words to make new words, and using fish to solve subtraction problems. We also got to try a tasty camping treat, s'mores, during snack! On Tuesday, we celebrated Norway's Constitution Day and learned about the different way people celebrate in Norway. We helped Ms. Henriette make waffles and tried some traditional Norwegian toppings. We especially loved seeing the King and Queen of Norway waving to everyone in the Constitution Day Parade! Next week, we will begin our summer theme and learn about the -op word family! Have a great weekend!
