1/6 Classroom Update

Important Dates/Reminders

Preschool Conferences/Progress Reports: We will be holding preschool parent teacher conferences the week of February 6th prior to preschool enrollment for next year. At this time, we will also send home progress reports for your child. We will send out a sign-up genius later this month to sign-up for your conference time slot.

MLK Day: There are no preschool classes on Monday, January 16th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Mid-Winter Break: There are no preschool classes on Friday, February 17 and Monday, February 20 for Mid-Winter Break.

MWF 3's Class:

This week, we read the story The Mitten and had lots of fun acting out the story both while reading and through song. We practiced sequencing story events by singing "The Mitten in the Snow" and acting out the story. We also wrote a class book together where each child was able to write/draw about what animal would climb in their mitten. We loved hearing everyone's ideas while reading it during circle time! During centers, we practiced one-to-one counting by counting mittens and recalling important story characters by sorting animals that were in the story versus not in the story. We painted symmetrical mittens, created mitten patterns, and acted out the mitten in a snow sensory table. We also read Jan Brett's book The Hat and used picture clues in the book to make predictions about what would happen next. We created our own hats to go along with the story! Next week we will learn about the letter L and the life cycle of a snowflake! Here are some picture highlights from our week in 3's:

PM 5's Class:

This week in 5's, we read Jan Brett's The Mitten and worked on retelling/sequencing the story. We located important parts of a book like the front/back, spine, title, author, and illustrator. We reviewed story elements like setting, characters, problem and solution after reading both The Mitten and The HatWe acted out the story in a sensory snow table with animals and real mittens, as well as with our retelling bags. We can use the retelling bags to share the story of The Mitten with our families at home. We learned that adjectives are describing words and practiced describing both a real mitten and our own mitten designs. We also went on word hunts for the sight word "was" and practiced reading with a pattern in our own mini versions of The Mitten. After reading both The Mitten and The Hat, we compared the two stories using a venn diagram. We also went on a mitten number hunt and completed mitten addition puzzles. This week, we learned about the letter P, distinguished between a lowercase p and q, and turned the letter p into a penguin for our letter books. Next week, we will learn about germs and important habits to stay healthy. Here are some picture highlights from our week in 5's:

Have a great weekend!
