4/21 Classroom Update

Important Dates/Reminders

No School 5/29: There are no preschool classes on Monday, May 29th in observance of Memorial Day.

Last Day of School: The last day of school for PM classes is Thursday, June 1st, and the last day of school for AM classes is Friday, June 2nd. There will be more information about end of the year celebrations and special activities to come!

MWF 3's Class:

This week, we learned how to be Earth heroes by taking care of our planet! We celebrated Earth Day by learning about planet Earth and ways to protect our home. We also learned about the three R's: what it means to recycle, reduce, and reuse. During center time, we created recycled art, explored with a recycling themed playdough kit, sorted colors with recycling trucks at the "recycling plant," painted the earth with dotters, and read about how we could save the earth. We learned about the importance of keeping our air and water clean, especially our oceans! On Wednesday, we met our classroom caterpillars and began recording our caterpillar observations in our butterfly journals. This week, we learned about the letter Y, met the Zoo Phonics character Yancy Yak, and painted our handprints like yaks for our letter books. We ended the week reading about the superhero "Michael Recycle" and reflected on how we can be Earth Heroes! Ms. Lori joined us in pretending to be superheroes in music class too! Here are some picture highlights from our week in 3's:

 PM 5's Class:

This week, we learned about planet earth and how we can take care of our home! We learned that Earth is the "ocean planet," and explored our world with a globe. We also learned about the importance of keeping our oceans clean and many of the different types of wildlife that live there. We did an experiment to see just how dirty a few pieces of trash can make water over time, and we all agreed that we want to keep our drinking water and oceans clean! We learned about the 3 R's (reduce, reuse, and recycle) and how we can implement the 3 R's in our daily lives. We took a virtual field trip of a recycling plant and learned about the many things that can be recycled! During center time, we created recycled art, played in an earth sensory bin, practiced scissor skills (and then recycled the paper!), painted the earth with q-tips to work on our fine motor skills, wrote about how we can save the earth, and sorted things we can reduce, reuse and recycle. We also learned about the -ap word family this week and matched -ap word to their pictures. On Thursday, we learned about the history of earth day, met Michael Recycle, celebrated being Earth Heroes, and had lots of super hero fun with Ms. Lori during music. Here are some pictures from our week in 5's:

Have a great weekend!
