2/5/16

2/5 Classroom Update!

This week, we learned all about the letter Y and the Postal Service! We made Yaks for our alphabet books, went on letter Y hunts, sorted upper and lower case Ys and practiced writing the letter Y. We also searched through magazines to find pictures of yellow items to add to our yellow collages.

The preschoolers were very excited to find our own classroom Post Office on Monday. In our classroom post office, preschoolers can write letter to their friends, add stamps, mail letters, and deliver letters to friends' mailboxes. This was a very popular center during both center time and free choice! We learned about what mailmen do, how mail is sorted, and discussed why the Postal Service is important. Here are some of the great books we read about the Postal Service below:

Next week, we will be learning about the letter V, participating in Valentine's Day themed activities, and beginning a two week theme of Friendship. In lieu of a party and students bringing in individual valentines for each member of our class, we are asking for students and their families to create ONE BIG VALENTINE using the paper heart that was sent home in your child's folder last week. You can use glitter, stickers, paint, yarn, pasta, crayons, or any other materials around your house to decorate your Valentine's Day heart. Please return your “Class Valentine” to school by Monday, February 8th so that we may share them with the class and display them for our school community.

Spring Conferences: Spring Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday, March 15th and and Tuesday, March 22nd. Please sign-up for one time slot using the following link: Spring Conference Sign-Ups. I look forward to meeting with all of you and sharing all of your child's growth!

Mid-Winter Break Reminder: There are no preschool classes on Friday, February 12 and Monday, February 15. Preschool classes resume on Tuesday, February 16. Childcare will also be closed on Friday, February 12, but will reopen on Monday, February 15.

Have a great weekend!
