11/13 Classroom Update

Important Dates/Reminders:

Kids Food Basket Donation Drive: Every November, we hold a Kid's Food Basket Donation Drive/Fundraiser. Kid's Food Basket is a local non-profit working to combat childhood hunger. This year's drive lasts from November 9 through December 4. Each class will be competing to collect the most of the following items: fruit cups, pudding cups, applesauce cups, and meat sticks. Please bring any donations you may have to class and I will put them in our class donation box. Thank you to everyone who has already donated and for helping us support such a wonderful organization!

Warm Clothing: As it gets colder, please send your child with warm clothing for outside time each day. Many items look similar, so please label your child's coat, boots, hat, and gloves/mittens. We go outside daily as long as it is not raining and the wind chill is above zero. If there is snow in the forecast or on the ground, please also send your child with snow pants as well.

Thanksgiving Break: WECC will be closed Wednesday, November 25th through Friday, November 27th for Thanksgiving Break.

Winter Break: There will be no preschool classes starting Monday, December 21 through Friday, January 1. School will resume on Monday, January 4th.

T/Th 3's Class:

This week, our theme was "Helping Hands" and we learned about the letter H. We discussed how we can have kind/safe hands at school, and all the fun and helpful things that we can do with our hands (ex. coloring, high fives, building, playing, cleaning up, waving, learning, etc.)! We also learned the Mat Man song, worked together to build Mat Man, and practiced drawing a person while singing the Mat Man song. You can find the Mat Man song here - it's a great way to learn how to draw a person while remembering all the parts! For the next two weeks, we will be learning all about turkeys and gratitude. Here are some picture highlights from this week:

PM 5's Class:

This week in 5's, we learned about the ocean and the letter O. We learned about some of the different zones of the ocean and the different types of life you can find there. We were especially surprised to find that life has been found in the Challenger Deep - the deepest part of the ocean! We specifically learned about sharks, seahorses, octopuses, and sea animals that live in shells. We simulated how octopuses use ink to protect themselves, identified the parts of a shark, and learned the differences between mammals and fish. We clapped out syllables in the names of ocean animals, identified the beginning sounds in different ocean words, built sea animals with pattern blocks, and enjoyed playing with ocean animals in a water tub. Next week, we will be learning about turkeys and gratitude. Here are some picture highlights from this week in 5's:

Have a great weekend!
