1/15 Classroom Update

 Important Dates/Reminders:

No Preschool Classes 1/18: There will be no preschool classes this coming Monday, January 18th. All day childcare is available for families who participate in the childcare program.

Warm Clothing: Last week, I sent home a canvas bag for your child's winter/snow gear. Please send your child with their labeled canvas bag each day containing their snow pants, boots, coat, hat, and mittens. Many items look similar, so please label your child's coat, snow pants, boots, hat, and gloves/mittens. We go outside daily as long as it is not raining, the wind chill is above zero, and the playground is not too muddy/icy.

School Shoes/Slippers: If you have a pair of school shoes or hard bottom slippers that you would like to keep at school, let me know and we can keep them at school to avoid having to lug them back and forth each day.

Preschool Progress Reports/Conferences: Preschool progress reports will come home in your child's folder on Thursday, March 4th. The week of March 15, we will also schedule zoom conferences to discuss your child's progress and to answer any questions about placement for next year.

T/Th 3's Class:

This week, we learned all about snow and ice! We learned and acted out the lifecycle of a snowflake and experimented to see if sugar or salt would melt ice faster! We discussed all the fun things we like to do in the snow, as well as all of the clothes we need to wear warm and what body part they protect. We read The Snowy Day and created our own snowy day scenes. We also experimented with making our own "snow mountains" with blocks to see which ones Peter would slide down faster. We really enjoyed playing in our new doctor's office dramatic play center and using magnifying glasses to explore snowflakes. We also learned about the letter L, turned our handprints into lions for our letter books, and learned the sign for the letter L. We have been working on writing the letters in our name and will continue to practice signing in each day! Here are some picture highlights from our week in 3's:

PM 5's Class:

This week in 5's, we focused on ways to keep our bodies healthy! We emphasized the importance of washing our hands, covering our mouths/noses when we cough and sneeze, and the importance of rest. We did a demonstration with glitter to show how germs are spread from person to person, and we also met "Sick Simon" (a spray bottle) who is learning how to cover his mouth when he coughs and sneezes. We started an experiment where we rubbed potatoes on different surfaces in the classroom that we thought might have germs to see what happens! We also saw the power of soap to repel germs in another demonstration using pepper as germs. We created "germ art" by blowing around paint through straws, and looked at germs and blood cells with a microscope. Our new doctor's office dramatic play was a huge hit, as well as building germs with modeling clay and other materials. We learned about the letters B and D, and continue to learn new sight words each week. Here are some picture highlights from our week in 5's:

Have a great weekend!
