1/8 Classroom Update

 Important Dates/Reminders:

No Preschool Classes 1/18: There will be no preschool classes on Monday, January 18th. All day childcare is available for families who participate in the childcare program.

Warm Clothing: This week, I will be sending home a canvas bag for your child's winter/snow gear. Please send your child with their labeled canvas bag each day containing their snow pants, coat, hat, and mittens. Many items look similar, so please label your child's coat, snow pants, boots, hat, and gloves/mittens. We go outside daily as long as it is not raining and the wind chill is above zero.

School Shoes/Slippers: If you have a pair of school shoes or hard bottom slippers that you would like to keep at school, let me know and we can keep them at school to avoid having to lug them back and forth each day.

Preschool Progress Reports: Preschool progress reports will come home in your child's folder on Thursday, March 4th.

T/Th 3's Class:

This week, we read the story The Mitten and had lots of fun acting out the story while reading and through song. We also learned that adjectives are describing words and practiced using them to describe a real mitten. Our preschoolers designed their own mittens and came up with their own words to describe them. We practiced sequencing story events by singing "The Mitten in the Snow" and acting out the story. Your preschooler can use their retelling bag to tell you the story of The Mitten at home! We also wrote a class book together where each child was able to write/draw about what animal would climb in their mitten. We loved hearing everyone's ideas while reading it during circle time! We also had lots of fun singing, dancing, playing instruments, and learning about high and low notes with Ms. Janet! Here are some picture highlights from our week in 3's:

PM 5's Class:

This week in 5's, we read Jan Brett's The Mitten and worked on retelling/sequencing the story. We acted out the story in the snow table and through song. We also made retelling bags to share the story with our families at home. We learned that adjectives are describing words and practiced describing both a real mitten and our own mitten designs. We reviewed story elements like the author, setting, characters, problem and solution of The Mitten. We also built and completed mitten addition puzzles - this was such a hit that friends wanted to do it again at free choice! We went on a number mitten scavenger hunt in the classroom to work on number recognition, and also explored the concept of capacity. On Thursday, we read The Hat by Jan Brett and compared the two stories. Here are some picture highlights from our week in 5's:

Have a great weekend!
