2/11 Classroom Update

 Important Dates/Reminders:

Valentine's Day Heart Project: Next week, we will be participating in lots of fun Valentine’s Day activities in preschool and discussing friendship. In lieu of a party, we are asking for students and their families to create one big valentine using a construction paper heart that I sent home in your child's folder last week. Please let me know if you need another one! You can use glitter, stickers, paint, yarn, pasta, crayons, or any other materials around your house to decorate your heart. Upon completion, please return your “Class Valentine” to school so that we may share it with the class and display it for our school community in our classroom windows.

Valentines: Sending in valentines for the class is optional. Although we will not have an official time to pass out valentines, students may bring them in to pass out during free choice time if they'd like. We have 16 students in our morning class and 8 students in our afternoon class. If you choose to send in valentines, please address the valentines "To My Friend" so that our preschoolers may be more independent in passing them out.

Scholastic Book Orders: You can shop the February Scholastic Book order by visiting our classroom homepage. February book orders are due by Friday, February 18. Enter the promo code READS at checkout to receive a free $5 book with a $25 purchase.

Kindergarten Registration: The EGRPS website regarding kindergarten registration information has been updated. Intent to enroll forms are now available. The link to the page can be found here. Please let me know if you plan on enrolling your child and would like me to fill out a Preschool Teacher form for you!

Preschool Progress Reports/Conferences: Preschool progress notes were sent home in your child's folder last week. If after reviewing your child's progress report, you have any questions, concerns or questions about placement for next year, please sign-up for a ten minute virtual conference on either Tuesday (2/15) or Thursday (2/17)  here. I will send out conference confirmations with a link to meet via Google Meet at a later date. Ms. Carly and I will schedule ECSE conferences together for a different date.

Mid-Winter Break: There are no preschool classes on Friday, February 18th and Monday, February 21st for Mid-Winter Break.

Spring Break: There will be no preschool classes Friday, April 1st through Friday, April 8th for Spring Break. Childcare will be available the week of April 4th for families enrolled in the childcare program.

T/Th 3's Class:

We were so happy to welcome Ms. Carly back on Monday after her maternity leave! This week, we continued to learn about Community Helpers with a focus on Safety Helpers. We talked about many of the important jobs that lifeguards, fire fighters, police officers, and the military perform in our communities to help keep us safe. The highlight of our week was playing in our new fire station dramatic play center! We also worked on positional words, created shape firetrucks, and acted out a fireman rhyme while strengthening our fine motor muscles. On Wednesday, we also learned about fire safety and built a community to play with our community helper vehicles and workers in. Our focus letter this week was the letter P, and we turned our handprints into a peacock with beautiful tail feathers! Here are some picture highlights of our weeks in 3's:

PM 5's Class:

This week, we began our exploration of different modes of transportation. We learned about different types of transportation on land, sea and in the air. We also learned about the forces of push and pull, and how we use them in our everyday lives. A push is a force that moves something away from our bodies, while a pull moves something towards our body. During center time, we created patterned name trains, worked on identifying beginning sounds, designed our own dream cars, and practiced identifying our birthdays when creating driver's licenses. We read the book Jabari Tries in which Jabari pulls from ideas of great inventors and engineers to build a backyard flying machine. He becomes frustrated in the process and learns some strategies to work through his frustration. We also practiced strategies to work through frustration like taking deep breaths, blowing frustration out, taking breaks, etc. Then we built and tested our own paper airplanes! This week, we learned about the letter M, learned the sign for the letter M and continued our handwriting practice by writing words and sentences. We also had lots of fun playing in the new fire station dramatic play center during free choice time! Here are some picture highlights in 5's:

Have a great weekend!
