11/18 Classroom Update

 Important Dates/Reminders:

November is Kid's Food Basket Donation Month: Thank you to everyone who has already donated! Every November, we participate in a food drive for Kid's Food Basket to make supper packs for kids facing food insecurity in our community. Each class is asked to bring in a specific food item (listed below). We have also been decorating bags in class to pack up the snacks to brighten someone's day. For more information about Kid's food Basket, please visit their website www.kidsfoodbasket.org. If you would like to participate, please donate the following:
  • MWF 3's: Individual pretzel, cheez-it or goldfish snack bags (1.5 oz or smaller)
  • PM 5's: Pudding Cups
Thanksgiving Break: WECC will be closed Wednesday, November 23rd through Friday, November 25th for Thanksgiving. Classes will resume on Monday, November 28th

Snow Gear: Please make sure that all of your child's snow gear is labeled. Many items look similar and preschoolers are not always sure which items are theirs. If you would prefer to send in a set of snow pants/cold weather gear to keep at school, we are also happy to keep their items hanging from their hooks ready to go!

Winter Break: There are no preschool classes Monday, December 19th through Monday, January 2nd. Preschool classes will resume on Tuesday, January 3rd.

MWF 3's Class:

This week, we learned all about turkeys and the letter I. We had fun playing a turkey letter recognition game, playing in a turkey farm/feather sensory bin, and shopping in our new grocery store dramatic play. We also painted turkeys with dish brushes, practiced cutting turkey feathers and built name turkeys. We learned about the sounds the letter I makes, the American sign language sign for the letter I, and identified things that begin with the letter I. We began discussing gratitude and what it means to be thankful. We will continue to learn about turkeys and to count our blessing next week! PM 5's Class:

This week in 5's, we learned all about turkeys! We learned about the parts of a turkey, the life cycle of a turkey, and compared turkeys and chickens. We also learned about and practiced "Three Star Coloring" which includes making the white go away, staying in the lines, and coloring things the right color. We worked on identifying beginning and ending sounds in words, listening for rhyming words, and segmenting words into syllables. We also learned about the letters G and Q, and continued to work on our letter book portfolios by making the letter G into a goldfish bowl and the letter Q into a queen. We began talking about gratitude and things we are grateful for. On Thursday, we had lots of fun following and creating different beats with sticks and doing a turkey dance. Next week, we will continue  Here are some picture highlights from our week in 5's:

Have a great weekend!
