11/4 Classroom Update

Important Dates/Reminders:

Scholastic Book Orders: This week, I sent home Scholastic book order fliers in your child's folder. You can order books by completing the order forms on the flier and returning to me or online by completing the steps below. There is a larger selection of books online to choose from than in the flier. Due to supply chain issues, shipping is taking much longer than usual so this will be the last book order before the holidays. If your order is a gift, please let me know so I can get it to you discreetly.
  1. Go to the Scholastic Reading Club Website here.
  2. Click Connect to your Teacher and enter our class activation code: PJFBX.
  3. Then click to order from this month's flier. Our default flier is the "Early Childhood" flier; however, you may order from any of the fliers. You can view more details about each book and add them to your cart by clicking on them in the flier.
  4. After selecting your items, click on the cart to create an account or sign-in to your existing account in order to check-out. November orders need to be placed by Friday, November 11th.

November is Kid's Food Basket Donation Month: Every November, we participate in a food drive for Kid's Food Basket to make supper packs for kids facing food insecurity in our community. Each class is asked to bring in a specific food item (listed below). For more information about Kid's food Basket, please visit their website www.kidsfoodbasket.org. If you would like to participate, please donate the following:
  • MWF 3's: Individual pretzel, cheez-it or goldfish snack bags (1.5 oz or smaller)
  • PM 5's: Pudding Cups
Thanksgiving Break: WECC will be closed Wednesday, November 23rd through Friday, November 25th for Thanksgiving. Classes will resume on Monday, November 28th.

MWF 3's:

This week, we learned about the letter G, learned the sign for the letter G, and turned our handprints into giraffes for our letter book portfolios. We also learned how we can use our whole bodies to be good listeners. We use our ears to hear, eyes to look at the speaker, our body is calm/faces the speaker, our hands and feet are still, our brain thinks, and our heart cares! We made "Mon-Star" listeners and played a "Match the Sounds" listening game. We built listening bodies with Mr. Potato Heads, read interactive books about listening, reviewed Mat Man and sorted what whole body listeners do and do not do. We also labeled the body parts we use when whole body listening. Next, we will learn about having helping hands and the letter H. On Monday, we loved wearing our Halloween costumes to school and showing them off in our Halloween parade. On Friday, we enjoyed playing the drums with Ms. Lori during music class and doing a special pumpkin dance. PM 5's Class:

This week in 5's, we also engaged in lots of Halloween learning fun! During circle time, we learned about spiders and how to sing The Itsy Bitsy Spider in Spanish. We also sang The 5 Little Pumpkins and played Who Stole the Candy from the Trick or Treat Bag? There were lots of giggles as we played the game and practiced turn taking! We learned about different types of patterns, completed Halloween patterns, and learned about syllables, or "beats," in words. During center time, we made letters out of pumpkin playdough, built syllable towers in Halloween words, painted spiders, strengthened our fine motor skills at a spider web sensory station, practiced writing numbers and building numbers with candy corn, and followed spooky recipes to make witches brew! We reviewed the parts of Mat Man and built our own skeletons, and also painted salt dough pumpkins! We learned about the letter C, met the Magic C Bunny, practiced writing the letter C, and turned the letter C into a spooky black cat for our letter books. Next week, we will focus on the letter O and learn about ocean lifeHere are some picture highlights from our week in 5's:

Have a great weekend!
