MWF 3's Class:

This week, we began our exploration of all things Spring! This week, we talked about the change in the seasons, identified signs of spring and read a springtime poem together. We also discussed how it rains often during springtime and learned why rain is so important! We had fun learning a rain dance and making rain sounds with our rain sticks! On Monday, we went for a nature walk to look for signs of Spring and found worms hiding under leaves and a bird's nest. During center time, we practiced identifying and writing letters with a butterfly game, played with water, matched the letters in our names with raindrops, practiced using scissors to cut along a line and read our own personalized name books. We talked about windy weather and made kites to decorate our classroom for Spring! We also learned about the letter V and turned our handprints into volcanoes! Next week we will continue to learn about Spring with a focus on flowers and the letter W. PM 5's Class:

This week, we learned that a community is a place where we live, work and play! We identified different places within a community and worked together to create a paper bag community with homes, public services, and businesses. We shared our favorite places in our own community and reviewed where we live. In order to prepare for our unit on community helpers starting next week, we also discussed why people work and different types of work people do at home, school, and work. We learned about needs and wants, and practiced identifying things that we really need versus things that we want. Now that we've finished all the letters in the alphabet, we began our exploration of word families! This week, we focused on the -at word family. By the end of the week, we were able to read and match many of the words in the -at word family with their pictures! Next week we will learn all about community helpers and focus on the -ad word family. Here are some picture highlights from our week in 5's:

Have a great weekend!
